SPECT CT Case - Facet Joint arthropathy

High Resolution SPECT CT images acquired on our BrightView XCT Nuclear Imaging System

HISTORY:  Widespread bone / joint pain. ? Bony pathology.

TECHNIQUE: Whole-body scintigraphy with SPECT/CT was performed following intravenous injection of tracer.

FINDINGS: There are prominent varicosities with  unremarkable vascularity elsewhere in the flow phase of the study. In the delayed images there is mild increased uptake demonstrated in the shoulders, hips, knees with generally nonuniform uptake throughout the spine, most marked in the L5/S1 interfaces (L>R).

SPECT/CT images demonstrate bilateral L5/S1 facet joint uptake (L>>R)  and generally nonuniform uptake of tracer elsewhere throughout the spine, particularly right mid thoracic spine.

COMMENT: There is no scan evidence of metastatic disease in bone. Bilateral L5/S1 facet joint arthropathy more marked on the left and  degenerative changes in the above-mentioned joints and spine are noted with no features of an active inflammatory polyarthropathy.
